Atkins and Candida

Hi

I have not been following any 4 plan over the last two weeks. But a teacher at school lent a copy of the Atkins diet. I have been reading that. She thought I might find it useful after she heard that I had suffered with Candida.

I must say I was very skeptical and felt like hiding the book from other staff members because I know they would not approve. Half of them are vegetarians for one and the most belief that the less meat you in your diet is best (so do I).

Last year when I went on the Candida diet the doctor put me on - I found it extremely difficult and ate at least one thing everyday that I should not have. At the same time various books I read and the dietitian I saw said that the diet would not really help.

Carbs are my weakness eat a lot of them. I tried replacing my carbs with wheat-free carbs but that was really horrible. I just could not get used to it. I still cannot imagine going on the Atkins diet either but it definitely seems more doable and not as unhealthy as I thought it would be.

I am going away for the easter weekend - be making Monday night.

I am thinking of designing my own diet combining the Low GI concepts and food with some of the Atkins concepts. I still need to complete reading the book, I am also reading one of Joanna Hall's books (that I took out from the library before I got the Atkins Book).

Sometimes, it is difficult to find a path that works for you; but you seem to be on the right track by listening to your inner voice and using common sense. The thing that has helped me is to do the mental work first, then to let my body follow. As Bob Greene says, dieting is pretty simple math: you have to burn up more than you eat. Obviously, the thing that hangs us up is more than logic. Keep searching; the answers will come.

I'm a carb-o-holic too, so I understand your difficulties. Still, it looks as though you have reduced them and that's a huge step in the process. You'll get to where you want to be!
